Contact Calaveras County  Animal Services 209754-6509

Taffy is a beautiful, playful,l and happy girl. She is a strong ball player, she can be possessive of her toys when she wants to tease you with them. She knows some commands and walks on a leash. She passed all temperament testing and passed with dogs of all size both male and female. We did not test with cats or children. We advice a active family with older children because of her size and strength. Come give this beautiful girl a look and you will fall in love with that happy smile. She will need to be spayed before going to her forever home.

INTRODUCING…”Lacey”

Pit/mix, Estimated age 4 months, Female, (too young for heartworm testing )
(AO47510)
Contact Calaveras County  Animal Services 209754-6509
Lacey is a young pup that came to us as a stray.  WOW – this girl has energy!  Whoever is the lucky one to adopt this girl will have to be consistent and diligent in her training so she learns quickly, proper social skills.  Her new home will also need to have a strong leader – one individual to take charge and provide her the stability she craves.  Giving her lots of toys to play with and appropriate chew toys will take care of some of that energy.  She did settle in a bit once we took her in for her photo “shoot”.  She seemed to like posing for us.  And it is obvious she will need a secure yard as she is very curious of her surroundings.  It wouldn’t take much for her to wriggle out of a hole in a fence if given half a chance.  So if you are looking for a young addition to your family and are up to the challenge, come by the Shelter and see what you think.  She might just fit right in.

INTRODUCING…”Phoebe”

Corgi/Dachshund Mix, Approximately Age 2+ years, 28 lbs, Female, Heartworm: Negative
(A047494)
Contact Calaveras County  Animal Services 209754-6509
Phoebe is a stray so we have no history but she has not met any human or dog she does not like.  She is not too interested in balls or toys but sure does not hesitate to go on a walk or jump into a lap to have a cuddle, if she wants to.  Which means, if she is going on a walk and you try to get her attention and she is having a good read with her nose about her surroundings then she might just ignore the human walking her.  So with just a little bit more leash training she will be more responsive.  Phoebe did well on all the temperament testing and when it got to the food test it was very evident this was a very hungry dog but she did very well when we took her bowl away.  Phoebe is very adorable and adoptable though because she stills jumps on folks she may not be a good match for a family with toddlers.  Kids  8 on up would be good.  Phoebe is just the right size to be a traveling companion for a RV couple. Phoebe was not tested with cats or children.

INTRODUCING…”Midnight and Rocky”

Midnight and Rocky’s caretakers lost their home, so they lost their home, too. They grew up together and, because they are bonded, need to be adopted as a pair.  Midnight is a short-haired black (of course) SPAYED adult and her best friend Rocky is a short-haired brown tabby NEUTERED adult.  They are both about 4 years old and big kitties––each weighing about 12 pounds.  They have always been indoor cats.  After adjusting to life at the shelter, Rocky is becoming a relaxed, mellow dude and enjoys being petted and having his ears scratched.  Midnight is very sweet and gentle but has always been on the shy side according to her previous owner––although a patient, cat-savvy person may help her become more outgoing. They are all set to leave the shelter and are so ready to have a home once again.

Please use the following intake numbers when making inquiries at the shelter:

MIDNIGHT (AO47371) ROCKY (AO47385)

INTRODUCING…”Han and Yoda”

HAN and YODA are solid black medium-haired NEUTERED juniors from the same household. Although at first glance they seem much alike, each kitty has an unusual feature. Han, the bigger of the two (12.4 pounds), is polydactyl (a “Hemingway cat”) with six toes on his front paws, the better to make an impression on you. Yoda (10.5 pounds) has distinctively rounded ears, much like an American Curl. These guys are super friendly and gentle and have people-loving personalities.  Both love attention––Han will give you gentle head butts when you pet him; Yoda is very talkative and will tell you his life’s story if you have the time.  They are each other’s best buddies, almost always touching.  Because they get upset if they are separated, it would be ideal if they could go to the same home. Since Han and Yoda have been microchipped and neutered, they are ready to join your family with minimal delay.

INTRODUCING…”Portia”

Portia just loves to be loved! This tortoiseshell and white SPAYED junior is truly beautiful, with bright green eyes and dainty white paws. She loves to be cuddled in your arms and revs up her purr motor as soon as you pick her up.  She has great potential as a lap cat.  Portia is on the quiet side and gets along with other cats to a degree.  She lives in a communal room, but prefers to watch from the sidelines and not interact with the other kitties.  She is very gentle and not at all aggressive––she is just “self-contained.”  She will do well in a household with other cats as long as she has her own space or in a household where she is the only cat.  Portia is spayed and microchipped, so you can have her cuddling in your arms or sitting on your lap in no time at all.

Please use PORTIA’s intake number (AO46959) when making inquiries at the shelter.

INTRODUCING…”Harvey”

HARVEY is a handsome short-haired orange tabby NEUTERED adult with pale green eyes. He is an impressive 16-1/2 pounds and a totally chill dude.  He has a calm, laid back personality that seems to say, “I’ve seen it all and nothing fazes me.”   Harvey is friendly and enjoys pets and ear scratches.  He is more of a “sit beside you” cat than a true lap cat, which is a good thing given his size.  Harvey lives in a communal room and gets along with other cats.  He will be a great companion for a human or a lonely kitty who needs a nice friend.  Since Harvey is already neutered and chipped, he is ready to go home with you right away.  If interested in this wonderful kitty, be sure and ask about Spike’s Orange Cat Adoption Fund

Please use HARVEY’s intake number (AO46642) when making inquiries at the shelter.

INTRODUCING…”Eubee”

EUBEE (pronounced you-bee) is a very pretty ticked brown tabby SPAYED adult, very friendly and on the quiet side.  Her jaw has an underbite, which looks a bit odd but does not at all affect her health or personality.  Her short hair means she’s easy to groom. This big girl (ten pounds) has a calm, easy-going personality and loves attention.  However, she does not seem to like other cats, so she needs to be the only cat in the household.  Eubee would love to be a companion or family cat!  She has been spayed and microchipped so she’s good to go to her forever home.

Please use EUBEE’s intake number (AO46854) when making inquiries at the shelter.

INTRODUCING… “Butch & Buddy”

BUTCH and BUDDY are looking for a happy ending to their sad stories. Butch is a long-haired orange tabby and white NEUTERED adult.  His brother Buddy is a medium-haired orange tabby NEUTERED adult.  They were two of the several cats belonging to an older couple who lost their home of many years and could only keep two cats in their new rental home. The couple was very sad about losing their “babies.” Some babies! Each weighs about 14 pounds and they are about 8-1/2 years young.  They have warm, outgoing personalities and are very calm.  They both love to be brushed and purr like mad.  Butch loves belly rubs and Buddy can be a real conversationalist.  Although both have been inside/outside cats, they would be ideal indoor companion cats.  These brothers are strongly bonded and need to be adopted together––ask about Spike’s Orange Tabby Adoption Fund. They have been neutered and microchipped, so they are ready to go home with minimal delay.

Please the use the following intake numbers when making inquiries at the shelter:

INTRODUCING… “Jett”

Doberman, 85 lbs,  Neutered male,  Heartworm: Negative
(AO47466)
Contact Calaveras County Animal Services  at 209-754-6509

Jett is a gentle giant, with beautiful long ears and a tail.   We don’t know his history but he has a few scars on his head and ears.  He is very calm and really just wants human contact.  He did very well during his evaluation.  His favorite thing to do is lay his head in a lap and be loved. He didn’t show interest in playing, although he seems to have very tender pads.  He likes squeaker toys.  He intensely does not like cats.  He did great with his food test, he just wanted to eat that wonderfully delicious canned food.   If someone is looking for a tender giant this is your boy. He deserves a loving, forever home.

INTRODUCING…”Sherman”

Terrier mix, Estimated age 2 years, Male, 20 lbs, Heartworm: Negative
(AO47351)
Contact Calaveras County Animal Services  at 209-754-6509
Sherman came in as a stray. This boy has springs on his feet ! He can jump into your arms and that is where he wants to be. He is very excited to get out of his kennel and have a walk.
He would be a great dog to train for agility.  Sherman is great with handling and passed all the temperament testing.  He barks at other dogs as if he is talking to them but is not showing aggression with them.  Sherman will need a high fenced yard to play outside.  He may be housebroken as he keeps his kennel clean.
